PlayStation 3 Drops $100 in Price in U.S.

July 9, 2007 by Sara

Sony has cut the price of its PlayStation 3 by $100 in the United States, bringing its pricing much more in line with the competing Xbox 360 from Microsoft, but still higher than Nintendo’s Wii.
As reported by Reuters, the 60GB version of the PlayStation 3 will now cost only $20 more than the most-expensive SKU for the Xbox 360.
The price cut came just two days before the new-format E3 kicks off in Santa Monica, California, where some industry watchers believe Microsoft will respond with a price cut for its Xbox 360. DailyGame believes a Microsoft cut is less likely, though, Considering Microsoft’s news last week that it would take a $1 billion loss to extend its Xbox 360 warranty to three years.
