Looking for a change of pace in your next RPG experience? Sega’s Resonance of Fate RPG may be one game you want to check out, presuming you own a PS3.
The Resonance of Fate RPG is a fan-favorite in Japan and is now available for the first time on PlayStation Network for PS3 outside Japan.
Resonance of Fate is unique in that it’s set in a dystopian future where Earth is no longer capable of sustaining life. The game features a “cinematic action” gameplay system centered around gunplay and a fascinating steampunk-styled world.
As part of the Private Military Firm, our heroes (Vashyron, Zephyr and Leanne) seek out and complete quests for their clients but are eventually led on a journey that will reveal the dark secrets behind the world they live in. Because all those superiors keep secrets, you know.
If you’re looking for an action RPG, you won’t find it here in terms of actual real-time controls. Players do battle cinematically as their characters wield firearms in a “semi-real time” gameplay system. It doesn’t sound quite as bad as a game built on interactive cut scenes, but it’s certainly not an action RPG.
Players can pull-off “Hero Actions” that include precision attacks and chain attacks. The Resonance of Fate RPG also includes extensive weapon customization that allows characters to have specialized weapons from parts unlocked or bought throughout the game.
Costumes can also be unlocked along the way, which you’d expect from a JRPG. Cosplay is apparently even cooler over there than it is States-side.
