The original “The Darkness” was an intriguing game to say the least, as the comic book-inspired FPS gave players the disturbingly rewarding power to double-wield guns while also controlling Demon Arms that erupted from its protagonist’s shoulders. Now that we know that The Darkness 2 will ship for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC on October 4, it’s time to let our dark, seedy sides come out of the woodwork once again through a quick glimpse of The Darkness 2 launch trailer below.
The Darkness 2 will follow the mold of the first The Darkness by putting players in the shoes of Jackie Estacado, a man who wields “Darkness,” an ancient and ruthless force of chaos and destruction that gives him snake-like arms and a host of other powers when activated. You can see these Demon Arms in the launch trailer below, albeit in more of a teaser/stylistic form than an in-game one. Presumably, the first in-game video of The Darkness 2 will be released at E3 next month, when we’ll bring it straight to you.
In The Darkness 2, it’s been two years since Jackie Estacado, now the Don of the Estacado crime family, used Darkness to kill the men responsible for his girlfriend’s murder. Jackie continues to have haunting visions of his beloved Jenny since her death. He’s tried to cope by bottling up his supernatural power, and now Darkness wants out. A sudden, unprovoked attack on Jackie’s life heralds the start of a full-scale mob war, which has clearly been orchestrated by some outside force. The botched attempt opens the door for Darkness to reemerge and sets Jackie on a journey to Hell and worse as he unravels the mystery behind the attack and the motivations of Darkness itself.
But enough with the words…check out The Darkness 2 launch trailer below. It may not include any in-game footage, but it’s got more style and ambiance than most full-on game trailers.
