The Creative Assembly is finally getting into the next-gen arena, as Sega will publish the studio’s Viking: Battle For Asgard for both the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Viking: Battle for Asgard will ship in spring 2008.
In the game, players will experience the brutal yet spectacular world of the Vikings and their all-powerful Gods, taking part in massive battles against savage magical beasts and barbaric warriors. The goal, of course, is ultimately to be the hero who saves the human world from the wrath of the Gods.
Viking: Battle For Asgard actually takes place in the world of Norse Gods, where the Goddess Hel has raised an army of demonic warriors sent to enslave the mortal realm of Midgard and ultimately provoke Ragnarok (the apocalyptic battle that will destroy even the Gods themselves).
Players will assume the role of Skarin, a powerful yet flawed Viking warrior who’s filled with rage since being manipulated by the gods and is ready to wage war on whoever stands in his way of stopping this clash. As Skarin, players will use a variety of mystical powers and brutal combat moves to leave behind dismembered foes.
The game will feature open-world environments in which gamers strive to free enslaved warriors and lead them into battles featuring colossal giants, powerful shaman, deadly assassins and the gods’ own champions. Players will even be able to tame dragons and unleash their rain of fire.
