If you can’t wait for Tuesday’s Destiny release date, you’ll be pleased to know Destiny PS4 pre-loading has gone live on PSN. Pre-loading Destiny on PS4 won’t let you actually play the game this weekend, but it will give you reassurance that the game will be ready to roll on Tuesday.
Pre-loading Destiny on Xbox One is also available for owners of Microsoft’s console. That system’s pre-loading began last weekend.
Only PS4 (and PS3) owners who have pre-ordered a digital copy of Destiny from the PlayStation Store can pre-load the game this weekend. Obviously there’s no pre-loading for disc-based customers since they don’t yet have the actual discs with which to install the game on their hard drive.
Once Destiny is pre-loaded on the PS4 or PS3, gamers can begin playing immediately when the game launches on September 9. As we reported earlier, there’s a funny glitch for PlayStation owners who don’t live on the East Coast that won’t let them play Destiny until 3am EST.
That odd “non-rolling” launch time — 12am Pacific — was confirmed by the PlayStation Blog on Friday.
But really, who’s going to be playing at 3am anyway? Oh yeah, lots of people.
Anyway, there are two ways to start pre-loading Destiny on your PS4 or PS3. First, you can decide to do nothing and the game will download immediately. This requires that you’ve enabled “auto-download” on your PS4 or PS3. During the weekend or on Monday, your PS4 or PS3 will check for updates and begin downloading the game immediately.
The second option is to start Destiny PS4 pre-loading manually. To do this, go to the PlayStation Store and navigate to the Destiny game page. If you’ve pre-ordered the game digitally you’ll see an option to download the game. Click the button and it will begin pre-loading.
If you haven’t yet pre-ordered the game, you can do so any time this weekend and Destiny will begin downloading immediately.
