If you’re wondering what PS4 games you’ll be playing when Killzone, Knack, Battlefield 4 and Call of Duty: Ghosts start to grow old, your eyes may turn to the MMO genre. If so, there’s a massive community already waiting for PS4 owners to tap into, as the PS4-compatible MMO War Thunder has just hit 5 million players worldwide.
The open PC beta for the aerial-combat MMO War Thunder lifted off one year ago. Since then, more than 5,000,000 players have mixed it up in aerial dogfights by piloting the most deadly WWII planes in history. During that time, almost 100 new planes have been added to War Thunder, as have new modes and improvements. Those improvements and tweaks will make their way to the PS4 version of the game, which is a PS4 launch title.
To celebrate the milestone, every current player will be able to participate in “Golden Battles” on Nov. 3 and 10, and the publisher will make available a limited-edition decal to decorate their planes.
The MMO War Thunder is also in development for Mac OS and Oculus Rift. The publisher, Gaijin Entertainment, is also work on an expansion pack called Ground Forces that will expand the battle from the air to the land.
With the PS4 release date just 11 days away, War Thunder’s publisher expects to double its userbase to 10 million gamers.
