Sony PSP Firmware Update Adds Google Search to XMB

June 17, 2008 by Sara Leave a Comment

Sony this week is updating its PSP firmware to version 4.00, with a key component of the update being the addition of the Google search engine directly on the XMB user interface.

Additional updates in the PSP 4.00 firmware include the ability to change viewing speed during video playback if the video’s stored on a Memory Stick PRO Duo. This is pretty menial in the grand scheme of things, but it’ll allow you to watch a video quickly or slow it down to listen to fast-paced dialogue.

The Google search engine will be accessible under the XMB’s Network category through a new “Internet Search” icon. The functionality has an input history recall of up to 20 items, if you find yourself browsing for the same thing on a regular basis.
