PS4 Bundles Sold Out; Pre-Order Your Xbox One ASAP

If you’ve been on the fence about placing your PS4 bundle pre-order, your window of opportunity for a launch console may have now closed. The PS4 bundles at Amazon are now completely sold out. The only PS4 consoles available now for online pre-order have an unannounced release date, likely at least one full week after the PS4 release date, if not longer.

This news of PS4 bundles sold out at Amazon could lead to a sudden rush to pre-order the Xbox One. Although it has had a slower ramp-up period for pre-orders, the Xbox One has seen sales increase since Microsoft reversed its DRM and used-game policies. It has gotten to the point, in fact, that Xbox One Day One Edition pre-orders now appear to be sold-out as well. A search on Amazon shows the Xbox One standard edition — not launch-day units — as the only ones available.

Following a massive influx of pre-orders for the PS4 during E3, the PS4 bundles at Amazon had been the only way for weeks to guarantee you would get a PS4 at launch. With PS4 pre-orders now apparently sold out everywhere, it now appears the only way to get Sony’s next console on its actual release date is to camp outside a store.

News of the PS4 bundles sold out at Amazon isn’t surprising, considering the pace of Sony’s initial orders, although the development does come after a decline in the PS4 pre-order craze. Two weeks ago, a quick review of Amazon’s Video Game store showed PS4 pre-orders in sharp declines, while Xbox One pre-orders were treading water and/or increasing. Games and accessories were the real winners two weeks ago, presumably increasing among those gamers who had already pre-ordered their console.

At that point, the Xbox One held the top spot for recent pre-order sales trends, although Sony still held a formidable lead in total pre-order sales due to the availability of the now-sold-out PS4 bundles. Having the Battlefield 4 bundle, Killzone bundle, Watch Dogs bundle and Knack bundle was bound to lead to higher total sales, whereas the Xbox One has only one flavor on Amazon, the Day One Edition. Now that appears to be gone as well, so if you want a next-gen console this holiday season, you’d better pre-order ASAP.
