Nintendo Wii owners have another band game from which to choose today, as THQ has shipped its Battle of the Bands to retailers in North America. Battle of the Bands gives Wii owners a little something to brag about, though, as it’s exclusive for the Wii. Rock Band and Guitar Hero 3 also appeared on PS3, Xbox 360 and PS2.
Battle of the Bands doesn’t require the use of a peripheral, as it uses the Wii Remote’s motion-sensing capabilities to combine a beat-matching game with combat. Yes, combat. Battle of the Bands is sort of like the head-to-head mode in Guitar Hero 3. But don’t worry; there’s also a single-player mode.
THQ’s music game includes 30 songs, each recorded in all five of the game’s different music styles: rock, funk/hip-hop, country, marching band and Latin.
The game introduces the concept of “music switching,” playing the music in the preferred genre of the winning player. When an opponent turns the tide of battle, the music changes as well, switching between different music genres.
