Reflexive Entertainment today unveiled a multiplayer version of its popular Big Kahuna franchise, announcing that the WiiWare-exclusive “Big Kahuna Party” will come to Nintendo’s console “soon.”
Big Kahuna Party will include both cooperative and competitive play for two to four players, as well as a single-player mode. The game will take place in underwater reefs, as players find themselves on a mission to discover new and exotic fish while exploring all 99 levels.
Since it’s appearing on the Wii, Big Kahuna Party will feature Wii-specific controls to swap tiles faster and more fluidly than in previous Big Kahuna games using either the Wii Remote or a combination of the Wii Remote and Nunchuk.
This faster tile-swapping action will come in handy in the multiplayer modes, where Reflexive says the underwater matching madness “can get intense.”
Big Kahuna Party will also feature explosives, which have been one of the most popular additions to the Big Kahuna series. Created as players make matches of five or more tiles, explosives range from sticks of dynamite to nuclear bombs and can be used strategically to clear out large sections or difficult-to-reach areas of each level.
Explosives will be useful in multiplayer competitive matches as well, as players must race to own the most territory on the board by clearing squares before their competitors.
