Castle of Shikigami III, a vertically scrolling shooter, has shipped today for the Nintendo Wii. Castle of Shikigami III is based on the arcade game Shikigami no Shiro and takes place in the forgotten kingdom of Alcaland.
The plot seems a bit on the wacky side, with the entire country disappearing and going into comas. To cure them, players take on the role of one of 10 psychics who have been hired by the royal family to investigate and solve this mystery.
What’s a nationwide coma have to do with a vertically scrolling shooter and psychics? Well, we’re not entirely sure, but we do know that the game has 55 possible story combinations, and that each character has his or her own specialized weapons and powers, from chain lightning to psychic blades.
Castle of Shikigami III on Wii also has a console-exclusive Dramatic Change Mode, in which players switch between two characters in the middle of the fight, sort of like switching between fighters in a fighting game. This mode was not included in the arcade game.
The Wii game also has a two-player Co-op Mode that lets players dodge a never-ending barrage of bullets with a friend.
All of this begs the question, of course: who would really want to shoot a psychic now, eh?
