It’s Monday, which means Nintendo has a few new games on WiiWare and the Wii Virtual Console today. However, before you dismiss the three new titles as “just the latest” uploads, you should know that one of the WiiWare games comes from Nintendo directly. It’s not that often that you see a first-party WiiWare game.
Called Art Style: ROTOHEX (600 Wii Points), the one- to two-player game uses colored triangular panels to create a vibrant mosaic of stained glass. As triangles fall from the top of the screen, players must rotate them to group six panels of the same color and create a matching hexagon (a “HEX”). Once the hex has been formed, it will disappear, allowing the existing panels to shift and more panels to fill the playing field. Yep, it’s Tetris.
The second WiIWare game today is Strong Bad Episode 3: Baddest of the Bands (1,000 Wii Points), in which Strong Bad sets out to dominate the Battle Royale of the Bands.
Today’s Wii Virtual Console game is a classic: Earthworm Jim from the Sega Genesis (800 Wii Points). In this old-school game, an ordinary earthworm stumbles upon a spacesuit that has dropped to Earth, eventually mutating him into a large and intelligent superhero. When Jim learns of the evil plans of Psy-Crow and Queen Slug-for-a-Butt, he decides to rescue Princess What’s-Her-Name.
