Overlord: Dark Legend to be a Wii Exclusive

August 14, 2008 by Sara Leave a Comment

While announcing the first details for Overlord 2, Codemasters outlined today a new Wii-exclusive version of Overlord scheduled to release in 2009. A Nintendo DS-exclusive version is also in the works.

Overlord Dark Legend, designed exclusively for Wii, will take place before the events of the original game, with players taking the role of a new young Overlord. As he revels in command of the Minions, the trainee tyrant will be able to take his growing pains out on the local fairy-tale inhabitants as he protects his castle and lands.

The Wii Remote will give players unprecedented control over the Minions, as it will connect players to the game world in three dimensions. For example, individual Minions can be plucked from the horde, held by the neck, imbued with some Overlordly power and then thrown like a guided missile by shaking/moving the Wii Remote. As if that damage weren’t enough, the Minions will also have explosive bodies.

Overlord: Dark Legend will feature characters from the original Overlord including Halflings, trolls, elves and dwarves, but it will also introduce witches, gingerbread men and Lil’ Red Riding Hood.

Meanwhile, a Nintendo DS-exclusive version of Overlord is also in development. Called Overlord Minions, this puzzle action game will see the Overlord commanding the Minion team remotely using the Nintendo DS stylus. In essence, imagine the game as a comical real-time strategy (RTS) game, with the stylus used to direct, command and combine minions in battle, pointing and sweeping them to attack enemies and solve puzzles.

Controlling a Special Farces team of four, players will take on a range of warped enemies to hunt down a cult dedicated to resurrecting the mighty Dragon Kin race. The gameplay will focus on the mischievous physical comedy of the minions’ antics.
