Phantasy Star IV Comes to Wii Virtual Console

December 22, 2008 by Sara Leave a Comment

The Phantasy Star series has a whole mess of fans, but Sega’s hoping to reach a new generation of fans who happen to own Nintendo Wii consoles, as the company today released Phantasy Star IV on the Wii Virtual Console — just in time for all those Christmas Wii recipients to get online and download the Sega Genesis game.

Phantasy Star IV (800 Wii Points) is the fourth released game from the epic Phantasy Star series, one of Sega’s biggest RPGs on the Genesis. In the year AW 2284, planet Motavia is once again plagued by strange biocreatures, and it’s up to the brave men and women of the Hunters Guild to exterminate them. Players are Chaz Ashley, a rookie Hunter straight out of training who is supported by Alys Brangwin, a crafty veteran whose good looks and prowess with the blade have earned her an awesome reputation. These two Hunters, along with a cast of supporting characters, will go beyond Motavia to unwittingly save their entire solar system.

The game is joined online today by two new WiiWare games: Tiki Towers and Fun! Fun! Minigolf. In Tiki Towers (500 Wii Points), players construct and destruct tikis while also solving problems and dealing with monkeys. Working with your monkey friends, players must build towers out of bamboo poles, coconuts and vines, while matching wits against the enemy chiefs bent on destroying your towers and driving you from the islands.

In Fun! Fun! Minigolf (900 Wii Points), players can play minigolf with their friends in environments and use their Wii Remote as a golf club. Players can play 27 holes spread across America, Asia and Europe. Fun! Fun! Minigolf supports up to four players, with the option to use one to four Wii Remote controllers.
