The game once known as Virtual Skipper has a new label and new level of credibility, as Focus Home Interactive has signed a deal to rebrand the game “32nd America’s Cup — The Game.”
It’s not a sexy name, to be sure, but it’s an accurate one. It also marks the first time a computer game has been dedicated to the prestigious sailing competition.
Scheduled to release in April, 32nd America’s Cup — The Game will take place partly in Spain off the coast of Valencia, where 12 teams are vying to win the international sport’s oldest prize. Players will the helm of one of the 11 official challengers and try to win the Louis Vuitton Cup, which will pit them against all the boats in the competition. If players win, they move on to the 32nd America’s Cup competition.
Aside from courses in Spain and 13 other worldwide locations, a “map editor� will also enable players to create and incorporate their own water courses and regattas. These custom maps will then be made available in online multiplayer games.
