Dead Space, a new survival-horror franchise from Electronic Arts, has gone gold and is on track to ship on Oct. 14 for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. EA has notified us that the PC version has also gone to the manufacturing process and will ship on Oct. 20. Dead Space will ship in Europe for all three platforms on Oct. 24.
Players who buy the console versions of Dead Space within its first two weeks of release can download for free a platform-exclusive suit for the main character. Xbox 360 owners will get an “Elite Suit” (it’s green” via Xbox Live Marketplace, while PS3 owners can download the “Obsidian Suit” (it’s gray/blue) via the PlayStation Network. Both suits will offer increased toughness (armor) and inventory slots.
Xbox 360 owners also have a console-exclusive Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition (limited to 1,000 copies). The package will contain a copy of the game, the Dead Space Downfall Animated Movie on DVD, a bonus content DVD, a 97-page art book, the 160-page graphic novel — which combines all six issues of the Dead Space comics — an exclusive lithograph illustrated and individually signed by Ben Templesmith and an Ishimura crew patch. The Dead Space Ultra Limited Edition can only be ordered through the EA Store. It, too, will ship on Oct. 14.
In Dead Space, players step into the role of mining engineer Isaac Clarke, an ordinary man on a seemingly routine mission to fix the communications systems aboard a deep-space mining ship. It’s not long before Isaac discovers vicious genetic mutations inside the ship, compelling him to engage in a desperate fight for survival.
