With Cliffy B and the rest of the “core” Epic Games team hard at work on the Gears of War and Unreal franchises, it’d be tempting to think that’s all Epic is up to. Not even close. This afternoon, Epic and Electronic Arts announced a publishing partnership that will see an entirely new Epic franchise come to the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC under the EA Games label.
The new intellectual property (IP) is being developed by Epic’s “People Can Fly” studio. If that name sounds familiar, it’s because People Can Fly created the Painkiller games.
The game is early enough in development that neither Epic nor EA was prepared to announce a name or even a specific genre, only going so far as to say it’s “an all-new action title.”
Because the game’s not being developed by Epic’s North Carolina crew, it’s not likely to be a “Gears of War killer” or an “Unreal killer,” although EA and its EA Partners label would of course like to see that come true (since Microsoft and Midway publish those series, respectively).
