Episodic "Watchmen" Game Coming to PS3, Xbox 360, PC

July 24, 2008 by Sara Leave a Comment

Warner Bros. Interactive today announced it will publish an episodic game called “Watchmen” for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC. The episodes, which will begin releasing in 2009, will act as prequels for the upcoming Warner Bros. Pictures film.

Playing the film’s core group of “masks” (see movie overview below), the masked adventurers at the center of the game’s story are Malin Akerman (“The Heartbreak Kid”), Billy Crudup (“The Good Shepherd”), Matthew Goode (“Match Point”), Carla Gugino (“Night at the Museum”), Jackie Earle Haley (“Little Children”), Stephen McHattie (“Shoot ’em Up”), Jeffrey Dean Morgan (“Grey’s Anatomy”) and Patrick Wilson (“Little Children”).

The Watchmen videogame will go beyond the film and delve into these characters, their rivalries and various challenges in an action-brawler that’s expected to get a “mature” rating. The game also provides superhero combat as urban vigilantes Rorschach and Nite Owl.

The “Watchmen” feature film is being directed by Zack Snyder, who previously helmed “300.” The screenplay is by David Hayter and Alex Tse and based on the graphic novel published by DC Comics. The movie tells a complex mystery adventure in which humans are at the brink of destruction. In alternate 1985 America — in which costumed superheroes are not only real but have been outlawed — one former hero goes looking for the truth behind the murder of one of his own. In the process, he uncovers a devastating conspiracy to drag the world closer to its own end.
