SRS Labs and Logitech announced today they’re teaming up to deliver a surround-sound PC speaker system that utilizes just two speakers. Called the Logitech Z Cinema Advanced Surround Sound System, the speakers include SRS Labs’ TruSurround HD technology.
With SRS TruSurrround HD surround technology, consumers can experience the atmosphere of a surround-sound system without the clutter and additional cabling of rear channel speakers. This could be particularly nice for PC gamers, as many of the best tactical and shooter titles are developed with surround-sound audio that can give correctly equipped players an advantage.
The Logitiech Z Cinema speaker system, consisting of two satellite speakers and an eight-inch subwoofer, can reproduce a full frequency range providing accurate sound. SRS TruSurround HD receives input from a multichannel audio source and delivers 5.1-speaker surround-sound audio from 2.0 or 2.1-speaker configurations (this Logitech setup is the latter).
The “phantom” speakers appear to extend all around the room, producing a distinctly immersive surround sound field with high-frequency definition and added bass and dialog enhancement.
