While Peter Jackson and New Line Cinema get cracking on The Hobbit, Electronic Arts and Pandemic Studios — the same team behind Mercenaries 2: World in Flames — will be busy at work on The Lord of the Rings: Conquest, an action game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, PC and Nintendo DS.
Unveiled today, The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will let players fight through the epic battles from the Lord of the Rings movie trilogy as the forces of good and/or try to conquer Middle-earth as part of Sauron’s army. And yes, that includes Cave-trolls, Oliphaunts, the Balrog and Sauron himself.

The Lord of the Rings: Conquest is set to ship this fall, so Pandemic has its hands full on the development side of things. Fortunately, the team working on the game is the same one responsible for the Star Wars Battlefront and Star Wars Battlefront II games, so this J.R.R. Tolkein-inspired game should be in good hands.
“We’ll freely admit that we’re rabid fans of The Lord of the Rings fantasy,” said Josh Resnick, co-founder and general manager at Pandemic Studios. “The Lord of the Rings: Conquest will give fans exactly what they want: full control of the blade, bow and magic to fight its epic battles any way they want — even if they choose to play from the evil side.”
DailyGame will bring you more information about The Lord of the Rings: Conquest at E3 2008, where we expect to get our hands on the game for the first time.
