Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 for PS3 and Xbox 360 has made its way to retail, complete with a new AI system. Players who don’t own a PS3 or Xbox 360 shouldn’t fret too much, though; Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 also shipped for PS2, Windows PC, PlayStation Portable (PSP) and Nintendo DS.
The new edition marks the first time that this soccer franchise has exclusively used the Pro Evolution moniker in North America. While the name may be new, it’s not alone; Pro Evolution Soccer 2008 also contains a host of new features, including the new AI system called “TEAMVISON” and an extensive “Edit” mode.
The new TEAMVISION AI system is a proprietary element that actively monitors the player’s on-screen movements and adapts accordingly, forcing players to consider their own strategic play more carefully. The PS3, Xbox 360 and PC versions also include an new extensive Edit mode, allowing players to customize their Pro Evolution experience.
As in previous releases, the ball is treated as a separate entity, with the timing of shots completely controlled by the player, while the new AI ensures that defenders work to close down space and block efforts on goal. Similarly, distribution of passes works along the same lines, with players using the space available to them to switch the ball. Dribbling control has also been enhanced, and a number of subtle moves have been added to bypass defenders in order to move the ball.
