Prototype has shipped for the PS3, Xbox 360 and PC, Activision announced today. The game, from Radical Entertainment, will ship in Europe on June 12, giving the entire known gaming world a chance to help an amnesiac shapeshifter find revenge and unravel the secrets of his conspiracy-laden past.
In Prototype, players assume the role of Alex Mercer, a genetically mutated man armed with shape-shifting abilities who’s on a mission to discover how and why he was created and make them pay. Revenge stories are so peaceful….
As Alex, gamers will rip through an open-world New York City a la a Parkour runner, but rather than just shoot or punch everyone in their way, they will “consume” them and absorb their memories, skills and attributes. Heck, since he’s a shapeshifter, Alex can even assume their physical form.
Fueled by a three-way war between Alex, Special Forces and a viral outbreak, players venture into a deep, dark conspiracy 40 years in the making — but only two or three in development.
