LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment today launched a “Buddy Referral Program” for Star Wars Galaxies by which current players can earn rewards for bringing friends into the Star Wars MMO. The incentives aren’t free months or cash, however, just collectible in-game items.
Starting today, Star Wars Galaxies players can earn up to four collectible in-game items for referring their friends to the game. Every new player subscription account created from now until February 15, 2008 as part of this promotion can claim a “thank you” Buddy Token. This token will then be placed in the inventory of the character and can be given in-game to the veteran player who referred them. At that time, it will then turn into a reward for the referring player.
The first three Buddy Tokens that a player may receive for referring buddies will, when redeemed, turn into a series of in-game paintings based on poster art for the Star Wars movies, Episodes I, II and III. The fourth Buddy Token, when redeemed by the same in-game character, will turn into a Light-Bending BARC Speeder, an incredibly rare item new to Star Wars Galaxies.
Star Wars Galaxies is one of the longest-running online games. Players begin aboard the Millennium Falcon helping Han Solo and Chewbacca fend off the notorious Darth Vader. Along the way, they join with Star Wars characters on missions that span across the galaxy and can choose to ally themselves with the Rebels or the Dark Side. Players can seek their fortune in space or on the ground as a bounty hunter, smuggler, Jedi or a host of other unique Star Wars professions.
