Star Wars: Galaxies gamers have some new content today, as LucasArts and Sony Online Entertainment have released Chapter 9: The Fury of Exar Kun, which will let playersencounter the spirit of the legendary Sith Lord Exar Kun.
Chapter 9 also introduces more than 25 additions to the Collection System, many focusing on Galactic Civil War items and artifacts, along with advancements to the Storyteller System.
The Tomb of Exar Kun Heroic Encounter
- Hidden below the Temple of Exar Kun on Yavin 4 lays the tomb of this legendary Sith Lord. Exar Kun’s spirit is so strong and malevolence so great that he has withstood death for 4,000 years, waiting for an opportunity to finally obtain the godhood he so desires. A group of archeologists excavating nearby have discovered the tomb’s crumbled antechamber, and as they explored deeper, have succumbed to Exar Kun’s powerful will. Players must eliminate each of the now twisted but powerful archeologists on their way to finally put the spirit of Exar Kun to rest.
More Than 25 New Collections
- Last October, Star Wars Galaxies introduced a collection book interface that allows players to keep track of all they have done in the game. For every collection series completed, players receive high-value items including weapons, armor, home decor, and even skill bonuses. Chapter 9: The Fury of Exar Kun offers new collections for players to hunt down, many of which feature items and artifacts representative of the Galactic Civil War. As with all of the collections in-game, the first player on each server who completes a collection will be recognized on the Star Wars Galaxies community website and will also receive a special badge in game. In addition, other players on the server will see the winning player’s name when they open their collection system user interface and mouse-over the appropriate collection.
Enhancements to the Storyteller System
- With Chapter 9: The Fury of Exar Kun, storytellers will now be able to share their custom-created events, from huge battles to wedding ceremonies, with other players in the game. The new blueprint feature allows players to create a complex event through the Storyteller System and actually save their work to a blueprint. These blueprints can then be used by the player again, or given or sold to others. To use a blueprint, a player simply calls it up, and if he or she has all the necessary set pieces, it will instantly unpack and set each prop in the correct place. Combined with a new real-time targeting system for placing props, storytellers now have simple, fluid ways for creating and sharing their personal Star Wars events. Chapter 9 also introduces all new props for the Storyteller System, including new items, decorations and NPCs from the Exar Kun heroic encounter.
- Players who log in to the game after Chapter 9 goes live, and before Chapter 10 is released, are eligible to automatically receive a fantastic new item for their in-game home or structure: a Galaxy Kiosk. The Galaxy Kiosk is a new, large furniture item that features four terminals surrounding three-dimensional representations for each of the major planets in-game. Not only is the Galaxy Kiosk is an impressive display, but it will also feature functional radial menus that will update the player on such things as the current Galactic Civil War planetary scores.
