First Details: Stoked, an Open-World Snowboard Game

August 20, 2008 by Sara 1 Comment

An open-world snowboarding game announced today will be an Xbox 360 exclusive, said publisher Destineer. Called “Stoked,” the game will focus on back-country snowboarding across five open-world mountains.

Developed in conjunction with snowboarding movie creator Absinthe Films, Stoked will let players try their hand at becoming a legendary rider and wow the world on Xbox Live. It will also feature multiple real-world back-country snowboarding stars, just for good measure.

In the non-star portion, players will embark on their own snowboarding career with a customizable character and riding style. The routes are completely open, as the five in-game (and famous-in-real-life mountains) feature more than 45 square miles of open terrain on each. Players will also be able to discover new drop points by helicopter, with ever-evolving weather conditions helping players decide where to ride and what to avoid.

In addition to the offline campaign, players can instantly drop into online multiplayer via Xbox Live, where they can team up with friends for cooperative and competitive experiences. Players can also go up against other riders on Xbox Live in a series of sponsored events.

While forging their career, Stoked players will encounter some influential professional riders as well: Travis Rice, Nicolas Mueller, Wolle Nyvelt, Annie Boulanger, Romain de Marchi, Tadashi Fuse, Gigi Ruef, and Bjorn Leines. Meanwhile, 30 authentic sponsors will also appear, including Burton, Dragon, Arcus, Von Zipper, Eleven, 686, Billabong, DaKine, Electric, LibTech, Nitro, Northwave, Oakley, Quiksilver, Ride, Hart, Rome, Salomon, TechNine, Vans and Volcom.

Stoked will ship exclusively for Xbox 360 this November.
