Gears of War 3, the final chapter in the Xbox 360 franchise, blasts into retail today. The shooter from Epic Games is among the Xbox 360’s most-anticipated titles of the year for millions of gamers.
We would’ve liked to have a review of it for you by now, but the retail game disc we were sent last week had errors that caused it to freeze repeatedly in the same spot just three levels into the game, and there was literally no fixing it. So, you’ll have to hang tight if you want to gauge our opinion before buying it. What we played was entertaining but at times a bit slow and overly scripted. Again, though, we were never able to make it past the first 15 seconds of the third level due to continual freezing.
“This is our biggest ‘Gears’ game yet, and even though it’s the third installment in the trilogy, it’s the easiest to jump into if you’re a new fan,” said Epic Games’ Cliff Bleszinski. “We’ve added more cooperative gameplay options and built in accessibility features throughout the game to make it approachable and fun for new players and series veterans alike.”
In Gears of War 3, the last bastion of humanity lies in ruins, and amidst the shattered remnants of civilization and ominous whispers of almost certain extinction, Marcus Fenix and Delta Squad must take up their Lancers and make one final stand for survival against the cataclysmic threat of the infected Lambent horde.
