In an Xbox 360 landscape dominated this year by role-playing games such as Fallout 3, Atlus USA has tossed its hat into the ring by announcing Zoids Assault, a gritty strategy RPG featuring “enormous beasts of steel.”
Zoids Assault will be exclusive to the Xbox 360 and will ship on August 26.
In Zoids Assault, players will manage a team of elite war machines through a campaign of intense military conflicts. Upgrade and customization options will be available for each machine, including melee weapons, rockets, rifles, machine guns, shotguns and cannons.
As a strategy game, Zoids Assault will have players commanding a complete of giant biomechanical life forms called Zoids. With these machines, players will need to master the concentrated fire tactic, manage the scan gauge and support tactics, and use the Electromagnetic Pulse System to defeat armies that are far larger than those under the players’ control.
If you’re interested in plot info, here it is, straight from Atlus USA:
hen war broke out between the world’s two main superpowers, the Guylos Empire and the Republic of Helic, the effects rippled across the globe, dragging other nations into the fight. Two such nations were Maroll and Jamil.
During the war, Maroll’s attacks on the neighboring Jamil were devastating, and even a decade after the war had ended, Jamil’s economy and infrastructure hadn’t fully recovered. Animosity, paranoia, and mutual mistrust between the two nations hindered their ability to find a common ground and complete their peace talks. For 10 long years, the two nations found themselves in the middle of a cold war.
After a mysterious explosion at one of Maroll’s military bases, two covert ops teams are sent into Jamil territory, their exact mission details never disclosed. Somehow, the events of the present are inextricably linked to the past–to the final days of the war, 10 years ago
