PowerUp Heroes, Full-Body Combat Game, Coming Exclusively to Kinect

April 12, 2011 by Sara Leave a Comment

Xbox Kinect thumbnailThe Xbox Kinect has hit somewhat of an engagement doldrums, with only a few games taking advantage of what Microsoft’s powerful hardware seems capable of doing. Ubisoft hopes to change that with a new Kinect-exclusive game unveiled today called PowerUp Heroes. PowerUp Heroes is slated to ship worldwide this June.

PowerUp Heroes is a full-body combat game that lets players transform their avatar into a custom superhero. Once the superhero is created, he or she will face-off in a fight against the forces of evil. Because that’s what superheroes do, see?

In the game, players will control each combat move by using their entire body to launch projectiles, dodge strikes and counter their foes’ attacks. The big draw, though, is going to be the multiplayer aspects, both online and local.

Via Xbox Live, players will be able to unleash super assaults in a two-player Cosmic Showdown. When it comes to local multiplayer, additional modes will include two-player Versus and four-player Tournament.

Before you start thinking your Xbox 360 avatar will be doing battle as-is, be aware that your avatar will have a special “super suit” that’s infused with deadly powers and special abilities. After the avatar destroys an enemy in battle, he or she will strip the fallen foes of their super suit and wield their power for their next battle.

All told, PowerUp Heroes will include 20 collectible super suits. Among the 20 are the Necromancer suit, which allows the player to control a horde of skeletons, and the Mentalist suit, which gives players the ability to break into their enemy’s mind.

With PowerUp Heroes slated to launch in June, it’s likely that the game will release after E3, which takes place the first week of June. So stay tuned to DailyGame for hands-on impressions from the E3 show floor, if not before.
