The long-awaited and oft-rumored Xbox 360 price drop will hit this weekend, according to ads and employees-only collateral at national retailers.
In an internal memo to GameStop employees, it was revealed that the Xbox 360 Pro System will drop in price to $299.99, effective Sunday, July 13. Microsoft’s E3 press conference is the following morning.
The Xbox 360 Pro System, which includes one wireless controller and a 20GB hard drive, currently costs $349.99.
In light of the Wii’s momentum and the steam that the PlayStation 3 seems to be gaining, the price reduction makes perfect sense for Microsoft, particularly as it looks to drive its install base in advance of games like Gears of War 2 shipping this fall. The reduction might also help soothe consumers’ concerns about the dreaded “red ring of death.”
DailyGame will have more on the Xbox 360 price drop, as well as other news from Microsoft, at E3 next week.
