Dying Light was supposed to be one of the premier zombie games for the PS4 and Xbox One as the consoles completed their second holiday season. Then the Dying Light release date got pushed back to February 2015, sending zombie slayers everywhere into a deep depression.
You can start to emerge from that funk now, folks. Techland and Warner Bros. Interactive have confirmed an earlier Dying Light release date than planned. And this time they even provided a specific release date rather than a month-long window.
The new — and final — Dying Light release date is January 27, 2015, in North America. For PS4 and Xbox One owners worldwide, Dying Light will ship Jan. 28 in Australia and New Zealand, and Jan. 30 in Europe and Asia. PC gamers will see the same Dying Light release date as console owners.
Dying Light is a first-person, action survival game set in a vast and dangerous open world. During the day, players roam an urban environment devastated by a mysterious epidemic, scavenging for supplies and crafting weapons to help defeat the hordes of mindless, flesh-hungry enemies the plague has created.
At night, the player-controlled hunter becomes the prey as the infected grow in strength and aggression. Even more lethal are the nocturnal, inhuman predators that leave their hives to feed.
You can see video of these beasties in action in this Dying Light gameplay trailer from Gamescom.
Now that we know the official Dying Light release date, you may be wondering how to pre-order it. Well, you can roll into your local GameStop or nab it from Amazon, but if you pre-order the game from its official website you’ll get access to a free DLC mode called Be the Zombie.
Dying Light’s Be the Zombie mode is an asymmetric competitive multiplayer mode in which you invade other players’ games as the Night Hunter. The Night Hunter has a unique set of deadly skills, namely being fast, agile and one of the most dangerous predators your opponents can face. As the Night Hunter, your sold objective is to hunt down human survivors.
