PAYDAY 2: Crimewave Edition Coming to PS4, Xbox One

June 18, 2014 by Sara Leave a Comment

PAYDAY 2 hit the PS3 and Xbox 360 months before the consoles’ respective big brothers hit retail. Now that the PS4 and Xbox One are out in the wild, it appears the game will hit the next-gen systems after all via PAYDAY 2: Crimewave Edition.

PAYDAY 2: Crimewave Edition hasn’t yet received an official release date, but it’s likely to ship later this summer or early fall. Our reasoning? PAYDAY 2 originally shipped for the PS3 and Xbox 360 in August 2013, so a PAYDAY 2: Crimewave Edition release date on or about the game’s one-year anniversary makes marketing sense.

PAYDAY 2: Crimewave Edition will be exclusive to the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. Like its one-year-old namesake, the game is a heist-based cooperative shooter.

The Crimewave Edition includes enhanced features and a stash of new bonus content. Overkill Software, the developer, hasn’t yet announced what that bonus content will be. At this point it’s not likely to be more than all the add-on packs released so far for the original PAYDAY 2, but maybe the publishing team at 505 Games has more up its sleeve to entice a purchase by next-gen console owners.

PAYDAY 2 casts gamers as a member of the infamous PAYDAY crew as they work their way through the biggest, most elaborate heists of their careers. Designed from the ground up for four-player cooperative missions, PAYDAY 2 features four new skill trees: the charismatic Mastermind, the heavy Enforcer, the gadget-crazy Technician and the super stealthy Ghost.

With these different skill trees, a weapon modification system and a new mask creator, players can really feel as if they’re customizing their own “career” as a criminal.

And yet you wonder why legislators and protective parents think gaming is evil….
