Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare Multiplayer Only on Xbox One

September 3, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

We loved Plants vs. Zombies: Garden Warfare at E3, to the point that we broke from the mainstream and awarded it our best of E3 shooter. We’ve been wanting to get our hands on it ever since, as it’s a nice break from the multiplayer monotony. It’s good that we felt that way, then, because it turns out that Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare multiplayer is all the game will have when it ships for Xbox One (and other platforms) in 2014.

Although Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare multiplayer modes are bound to be plentiful, the game’s going completely sans campaign for its Xbox One debut. That’s right: it won’t have a single-player mode at all, according to its creative director.

Seeing as how the multiplayer Plants vs Zombies 2 has done just fine (25 million downloads and counting), this isn’t likely to hurt total sales. Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare supports a four-player co-op mode as well as a competitive 24-player mode, so there’s going to be no shortage of action. But for those of us who like the occasional anti-social behavior, the news that Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare multiplayer is the only option available is a mite sad.

Want a pick-me-up? How about the Garden Warfare price: it will launch on Xbox One for $39.99 and be available at retail as well as via the Xbox Store (Microsoft’s new name for the Xbox Live Marketplace). If you nab the Xbox 360 or PC version instead, Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare will only cost $29.99.

Some people may gripe about $40 being too much for Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare multiplayer modes alone. However, before you get bent out of shape, keep in mind that there will be exclusive Plants vs Zombies Garden Warfare Xbox One content, which is probably what brings the price up by $10. And it’s still $20 less expensive than most retail Xbox One games.
