Normally the Season Pass concept for games is a way to get discounted DLC after a game ships. Microsoft and Insomniac Games are taking a slightly different tack with the Sunset Overdrive Season Pass, announcing that it will include some bonus content on the game’s launch day.
The Sunset Overdrive Season Pass will include three rounds of add-on content that releases post-launch. However, the $19.99 Pass will also include some content that’s unlocked and fully usable immediately upon the Sunset Overdrive release date.
Surprisingly, none of this Day One content involves a weapon. Considering Insomniac’s penchant for guns and gunplay, that’s somewhat unexpected. However, it does include some Traps, Amps and Outfits for your avatar to use.
In the Outfits category, Season Pass owners will have Day One access to six exclusive outfits: Bomber Ninja, Disco Champion, Goth Lolita, Never Get Cold, Road Queen, and Red Monkey Lightning.
Two Amps will also be unlocked on launch day. The first is Smite, an Epic Amp that turns your enemies into a cloud of smoke. The second is called XP Mod, which does just what its name implies: it’s a Weapon Amp that increases the rate at which your weapon levels-up.
The third category of Day One content unlocked for Sunset Overdrive Season Pass owners is Traps. Two traps are included in the mix: Kaboom!, which causes a creepy clown to produce a bundle of exploding balloons for you; and Death by Decibel, which is a deafening sound system that blasts any enemy that gets near it with ridiculously loud rock music.
You can buy the Sunset Overdrive Season Pass individually, or you can nab the Day One Digital Deluxe Edition, which includes the Season Pass in its $79.99 price.
