Amid the crush of high-profile games shipped for the holidays, the release of a Tetris Ultimate PS4 and Xbox One game may have been overlooked. Owners of a next-gen system should overlook it no longer, though, as the game costs only $9.99 and supports four-player action.
The Tetris Ultimate PS4 and Xbox One version includes six gameplay modes, each of which supports solo and competitive multiplayer action for up to four players.
First up is Battle Mode, in which players must knock-out other challengers to be the last person standing. Second is Battle Ultimate, which is similar but includes a host of crazy power-ups that let players clear away lines, shower opponents with blocks or shift their Matrix to the left after each move.
The third mode is called Marathon, in which players must complete Level 15 and rack up as many points as they can. The fourth mode actually sounds more like a “marathon,” though, as Endless has players continuing to clear lines until their stamina runs out.
The fifth and sixth modes are Ultra and Sprint. In Ultra mode, players must race to score as many points as possible before the three-minute timer runs out, whereas in Sprint players must clear 40 lines as quickly as possible.
The Tetris Ultimate PS4 and Xbox One versions are both digital downloads only, which gives them a great $9.99 price. Gamers who want to purchase it on Nintendo 3DS at retail have to pony up $29.99 or can buy it digitally through the Nintendo eShop for $19.99.
Tetris Ultimate will be released later in 2015 for Windows PC and PlayStation Vita.
