Xbox One Dead Rising 3 Demo: 20 Minutes of Pure Gore

December 13, 2013 by Sara Leave a Comment

Capcom and Microsoft today uploaded a Dead Rising 3 demo for Xbox One, the first time the new console has seen a game demo for a major title. Microsoft’s Xbox 360 was rife with game demos, but the Xbox One hasn’t been in its first three weeks of availability. With any luck, today’s launch of a Dead Rising 3 demo will pave the way for other trials in the near future.

The 20-minute timed demo lets players explore the zombie-infested sandbox of Ingleton, one of several districts within the game’s Los Perdidos metro setting. Twenty minutes isn’t much time to poke around the open-world environment, but it’ll give you plenty of time to find weapon blueprints, combine weapons and drive a few vehicles to help you kill as many zombies as you can.

The Dead Rising 3 demo can be played up to two times per gamertag. After that, you’ll have to pony up for the full version of the Xbox One-exclusive game.

As odd as it sounds, while the 20-minute demo is brief, it will tell players about 75% of what they need to know when deciding whether to buy the full game. Twenty minutes probably won’t let you build combo vehicles or play against any of the psycho bosses, but for better or worse, the lion’s share of the full game is focused on exploration and mindless, slash-happy gore. And Xbox One owners will experience plenty of that in 20 minutes.

In addition to announcing the Dead Rising 3 demo, Capcom and Microsoft also unveiled that the first Dead Rising 3 DLC will go live on Dec. 24. Called “Operation Eagle,” the first Dead Rising 3 DLC installment will tell some of “the untold stories of Los Perdidos.” This first episode puts gamers in control of Spec Ops Commander Adam Kane, who’s on a mission that challenges everything he believes and sets him out to capture the missing U.S. President.

All told, the Operation Eagle DLC includes a new mission, five new weapons, one new combo weapon, one new vehicle, a new clothing outfit, plus additional Gamerscore and the ability to carry experience points back to Dead Rising 3.
