Last Sunday the Atlanta Falcons put on a clinic against the New Orleans Saints, lighting them up on offense to pull out an impressive 37-34 overtime win at home. The Cincinnati Bengals had an impressive showing as well, with a dominant passing game that will be reason alone to watch today’s Falcons vs Bengals game at 1pm EST / 10am PST.
Atlanta quarterback was the star of last Sunday’s Falcons game and won NFC offensive player of the week honors because of it. Ryan threw a franchise-record 448 yards with three touchdowns on 31-of-43 passing in leading Atlanta to a franchise-record 568 total yards of offense.
It was an encouraging start for the Falcons, who suffered their first losing season last year (4-12) since 2007. Ryan will hope to lead the Atlanta offense to another win in today’s Falcons / Bengals game at Cincinnati’s Paul Brown Stadium.
Standing in his way is Bengals QB Andy Dalton. Dalton last week went 25-for-38 on his way to 301 passing yards and a touchdown against the Baltimore Ravens. More impressive was Dalton finishing the game without an interception. He threw six interceptions during his last two games last year.
Dalton didn’t get a lot of help last week from the ground game, with running back Giovani Bernard held to 48 yards. Today’s Falcons / Bengals game could be a different story. Atlanta allowed the Saints to gain 139 yards on the ground and has allowed teams in 14 straight games to gain 100 yards on the ground.
