NY Giants quarterback Eli Manning has certainly taken his share of pot shots during the past two seasons. If the past two weeks are any indication, Manning and the NY offense may finally be turning a corner and putting those whispers behind them. Their next test is today at 1pm on FOX, when the Atlanta Falcons travel to MetLife Stadium to take on the seemingly new-look Giants.
The Giants and Falcons are both 2-2, and both teams are dramatically under-performing through four weeks. However, watch today’s Falcons vs Giants game live and you’ll see two teams going in opposite directions. The Giants, winners of two straight, have looked good on the offensive line and is giving Manning time in the pocket as he’s grown accustomed to the team’s new offense.
Manning should frankly be licking his chops today. Last Sunday against the Redskins, the Giants QB completed 28 of 39 passes for 300 yards with four touchdowns. Atlanta, meanwhile, hasn’t been consistent defensively and last Sunday allowed 558 total yards in their loss to the Vikings. Keep in mind, Minnesota was playing without RB Adrian Peterson and was starting rookie QB Teddy Bridgewater.
Add last Sunday’s total yardage to their previous road loss, a 10-24 Week 1 beat down from the Bengals, and Atlanta’s defense has allowed 1,030 yards in two games.
Falcons QB Matt Ryan has given Atlanta some hope, but he can’t do it alone. Atlanta ranks second in the NFL with 322.2 passing yards per game, and their 444 yards-per-game of total offense is tops in the league. Last week Ryan had 298 yards and 3 TDs in the Falcons’ loss. But the defense once again played horribly, and Ryan’s two picks didn’t help.
