There are few games Las Vegas bookies call wrong, but today’s 1pm EST game on FOX between the Detroit Lions and New York Jets could be one of them. Vegas has the Jets as 1.5-point favorites over the Lions, which is nearly inexplicable. Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has shone through three weeks, racking up a 75.7 Total QBR and teaming-up with wide receiver Calvin Johnson for a 200-yard game outing once and a 100-yarder in another. The tandem’s lone sub-100-yard game in Week 2 was still solid, with Stafford connecting with Megatron for 83 yards against the Panthers.
Nobody questions the Jets’ rushing defense. Through three weeks the team’s allowing just 35 yards per game to opposing running backs. But while the Lions do have Reggie Bush, they’re still a pass-happy team. Heck, Johnson alone has 194 yards and two touchdowns just on third downs this season.
The Lions are a bit of a defensive mess in the secondary, but Jets quarterback Geno Smith isn’t one to exploit such things. However, as you watch today’s Lions Jets game live free you will see two top defensive lines, of which Detroit’s could pose trouble for the Jets’ Smith.
Although they’re anchored by Ndamukong Suh, the Lions have a solid full defensive line. Last week the Lions’ front four got the best of the Packers’ Aaron Rodgers, who’s not one to fold easily. Rodgers left that game saying adjustments had to be made. If the Lions D could frustrate Rodgers, imagine what they’ll do to Smith.
Smith hasn’t been stellar through three weeks, with backup Michael Vick playing a few series in each game. If the Jets drop to 1-3, I wouldn’t be surprised if Michael Vick got the nod as the starting QB going into the Jets’ next game.
