The Philadelphia Eagles offense hasn’t had the same success as last season’s debut of Chip Kelly’s offense, though the team still enters today’s game against the St. Louis Rams with a 3-1 record. Nick Foles has played well at quarterback, but not having the ground game has hurt. That could change for several reasons today as you watch the Rams Eagles game live.
Philly this week welcomed back offensive lineman Lane Johnson, who was forced to sit out the first four weeks of the season due to a suspension. His return will be huge for the Eagles offense, as the 49ers defensive front walked all over them last Sunday in the Eagles’ 21-26 loss to San Francisco.
The St. Louis Rams are a great slump-buster for the run as well. Through three games the 1-2 Rams rank 30th in the NFL against the run, allowing an average of 155 yards on the ground. Although the Eagles’ LeSean McCoy has just 192 yards on the season and is averaging 2.7 yards per carry, that could change with Johnson back on the offensive line and the Rams struggling to stop just about everyone.
Quarterback Austin Davis will start again for the Rams today. Davis got his first nod last week against the Cowboys, completing 30-of-42 passes for 327 yards and 3 TDs in the Rams’ 31-34 loss to Dallas. With Sam Bradford lost for the season, Davis has been named the Rams’ starting QB for the duration.
Still, the Eagles have won three in a row against the Rams and opened as seven-point favorites.
