EA/Dice took Battlefield 2 from 6 years ago and turned it into a free2play game. It is still in beta, but seems to run like garbage. And it looks funny to boot. The soldiers look string beans.
Meanwhile the new Battlefield: Bad Company 2 runs much better and it’s a 2010 game with 10x the graphics, destructible environments etc etc etc.
They’ve got a ways to go on that one.
Battlefield play4free (sorry not free2play) also loads the customizations of other players in every time you respawn. Why do I need to see this? Just take another second or two to respawn me and don’t flash the words “loading beanbreath806’s customizations” 10x as I respawn. I don’t care. I don’t need to see which players loaded customizations. Ok it’s beta. Probably for the programmers.
The sound of the weapons though actually sound better than in BF:BC2. AT least the assault rifle did. There’s more bass and feel to ’em. BF:BC2 has tinny weapon sounds. Maybe it’s the sound system in my PC. Might need a dedicated sound card. There’s also a lot going on in BF:BC2 so half the time you can’t hear crap because of the explosions. That could be the cause as well. IN BF play4free it’s relatively quiet. You can hear you gun. btw, the sound effects for modern military multiplayer shooters has to be 10x easier than 5-10 years ago. Just record an explosion then layer and loop it. Done. Believe me this is not far off from what you hear while playing these games.
BF play4free had one other annoying trait. I put a helmet on my character. And then I didn’t buy it. But it wouldn’t let me go back to the game. It first told my to put it back. I spent 5 minutes wondering wtf? Just cancel it and let me go back. Finally figured out I was supposed to drag and drop them back into the store. STrange because I don’t remember dragging them onto by character. I just clicked on them. And it didn’t even look like you can drag in that interface. So I spent 5 minutes holding by boiling blood trying to figure that one out.
Anyway as of today there isn’t much reason to play BF play4free unless you were a child actor in Slumdog Millionaire and lost your slumhouse to a fire recently.
