You know what the Barenaked Ladies song says: “everything will be alright, if we go shopping.” Well, here’s a movie that takes that concept to an extreme, a romantic comedy in which a glamorous young woman living in New York cimply can’t stop shopping. But does that mean everything’s alright? Well, not necessarily. The film Confessions of a Shopaholic is a romantic comedy after all, and nothing’s ever quite perfect in those.
In Confessions of a Shopaholic, Becky Bloomwood (Isla Fisher) desperately wants a job writing for a high-fashion magazine. She gets her stilettos in the door when she gets a job writing a personal finance column at a sister publication. Much to her surprise, her columm, “The Girl in the Green Scarf,” not only becomes a hit, but she alls head over heels in love with her overworked yet handsome boss (Hugh Dancy). Becky, of course, has a secret that leads to some hilarious highjinks that could unravel it all.
