The Beatles: Rock Band is the latest outing in the home console music-game scene, but it’s the first to take such a legendary band (no offense to Guitar Hero: Aerosmith) and really tweak the gameplay as well as the presentation. In the game, which we reviewed here, players can participate in the entire career of The Beatles, from Liverpool to Shea Stadium to Abbey Road. In so doing, they can re-trace the band’s footsteps while drumming, playing guitar or even singing either lead vocals or harmonies.
The three-part harmonies are the newest innovation for the genre, although the almost-personal look the game gives viewers into The Beatles’ careers is also rather unique. Does The Beatles: Rock Band really let gamers feel what it’s like to perform with John, Paul, Ringo and George? Not really, but it’s about as close as you’ll get, and with all the downloadable content out now and on the way, it’s one gift that will keep on giving.
Speaking of gift, we’re giving away one brand-new retail copy of The Beatles: Rock Band for Xbox 360.
