Just three weeks ago NY Giants fans had written-off their team for the second year and presumed quarterback Eli Manning had lost his way permanently. Headed into tonight’s Sunday Night Football game against the Philadelphia Eagles, those same Giants are the hottest team in the NFL and have a more prolific offense than even Eagles coach Chip Kelly has been able to drum up.
The Giants and Eagles met twice last year and split the series. In their first game, a 36-21 Eagles win, Nick Foles came in in the second quarter after Michael Vick injured his hamstring and threw for 197 yards and two touchdowns while leading four scoring drives. In their second meeting, a 15-7 Giants victory, New York stymied the Eagles offense, holding it to 201 total yards while advancing to a 2-6 record.
Tonight’s Sunday Night Football game still has the Eagles with the better record, but the Giants are the hottest team out there. New York has won their last three games and scored at least 30 in each of them: a 30-17 win at home against the Texans, a 45-14 road win against the Redskins and a 30-20 victory last Sunday against the Falcons.
Quarterback Eli Manning and the offensive line have played well in each game. Last Sunday Manning completed 19-of-30 passes for 200 yards and 2 touchdowns, guiding New York to a 20-0 run in the game’s final 18 minutes.
Manning had good support on the ground. Running backs Andre Williams and Rashad Jennings combined for 120 yards rushing. The Eagles go into tonight’s Sunday Night Football game ranked 25th against the run, so the Giants’ running back duo could have another big game on the road.
In the second Giants / Eagles game last year, Philly’s offense was out of sync with Matt Barkley at the helm. This year Nick Foles is the consistent starter, but the offense itself hasn’t been consistent. Foles is having a good season, having passed for 1,380 yards and 8 TDs, but his 207-yard outing last week against the St. Louis Rams wasn’t enough. The Eagles needed a score by both the defense and special teams to pull out the 34-28 win.
Still, with Sunday Night Football in Philadelphia tonight, the Eagles are three-point favorites against the suddenly hot Giants. Could New York even-up the records in the NFC East? We’ll find out as we watch Giants vs Eagles online free Sunday Night Football live stream tonight.
