Today’s Green Bay Packers and Detroit Lions game is the latest chapter in one of the NFL’s best rivalries. With the teams coming into today’s game going in opposite directions, it’s also a gut check. One of the biggest questions whether we’ll see the week 2 Aaron Rodgers when we watch today’s Packers game live, or the QB who struggled in the season opener. The Lions will have a lot to do with that.
The Packers QB didn’t play well in Green Bay’s season-opening loss to the Seahawks but turned it on last Sunday. Rodgers started slowly against the NY Jets, fumbling the ball in the Packers’ first series. After spotting the Jets a 21-3 lead, Rodgers turned into his old self and led the team to a 31-24 comeback win. Rodgers finished the game 25-for-42 with 346 yards and three TDs.
Lions QB Matthew Stafford had the opposite experience. After a strong opener against the NY Giants, Stafford last week had issues in the Lions’ 24-7 loss to the Panthers. Stafford passed for more yards (291) than Panthers QB Cam Newton (281), but it took him more pass attempts to do so and he threw an ill-timed interception intended for Calvin Johnson. That pick turned the tide of the game.
The Lions defense and Ndamukong Suh failed to contain Panthers QB Newton, so watch today’s Packers game live to see if they do better against Rodgers. Rodgers is 10-1 in games he’s started against the Lions, and the Packers have won five of the past six times these teams have met.
