Both the Dallas Cowboys and New Orleans Saints enter tonight’s NBC Sunday Night Football game at 8:30 EST on the heels of a Week 3 victory. Unfortunately for the Saints, it was their first of the year, and they’re back on the road tonight at AT&T Stadium. The Cowboys, meanwhile, are 2-1 and three-point favorites in tonight’s Saints Cowboys game live.
New Orleans has played the Cowboys well in recent years, winning the past three times these teams have met. Although last season was a 49-17 blowout, the games in 2012 (34-31) and 2010 (30-27) were much closer and indicative of what we’ll see as we watch Saints vs Cowboys Sunday Night Football game live tonight.
Last year the Saints and QB Drew Brees were the talk of the league, particularly at home. Their high-powered offense at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome was lethal. The blowout 49-17 win over the Cowboys last year, not surprisingly, was at the Superdome. While the Saints played well, the Cowboys defense was a large reason for the loss, allowing 625 total yards and 40 first downs.
Yet last season the Saints struggled on the road, much as they are this year, and tonight’s Saints Cowboys Sunday Night Football game is live from Dallas. That alone threatens the Saints’ 3-0 record against the Cowboys since 2010.
Drew Brees is still having a good year. His 73.7 Total QBR, while not stellar, is good enough for seventh in the NFL. However, the other QB on the field tonight, Dallas quarterback Tony Romo, is only two spots behind with his 72.9 QBR. Yet where Brees has guided the Saints to the fifth-best passing game, Romo’s got the Cowboys sputtering to the 24th-ranked passing game through three weeks.
If the Saints make it four in a row, it’ll be Brees who’s the difference maker. So far the Cowboys have faced a flat Colin Kaepernick, a middling Jake Locker and a virtual unknown in Austin Davis. This season they haven’t faced a quarterback like Brees, and the Cowboys defense was already billed as one of the worst in the league. Indeed, Davis last week threw for 327 yards – and he’s the Rams’ third-string quarterback.
With Brees having an efficient year and the Saints being 8-1 on Sunday Night Football since 2006, the Cowboys could be in for a tough game even though it’s being played in Dallas.
