The Major League Baseball season is upon us, which means 2K Sports is returning to the diamond in what the company hopes will be a game that helps them turn the corner — or in this case, round the bases — once again in terms of its baseball gameplay and presentation.
In MLB 2K10, players can review official scouting reports, work the corners based on pitchers’ actual mechanics and strategically time and position their swing for the best results — whether swinging for the fence or taking a defensive cut. A new feature called Batter’s Eye also uses a hitter’s real-life eye rating to help gamers identify fastballs, breaking balls and off-speed pitches before they get to the plate. Rounding things out: a true-to-life Player Rating System, Signature Style and a new Motion Model animation system that ensures every pitch, catch and throw looks and feels like you’re at the ballpark.
Until you create your own player, that is. That’s when reality starts to distort and you can focus less on realism and more on your romanticized version of how you’d perform in your wildest MLB dreams.
