Warner Bros. Interactive today confirmed that a Batman Arkham Origins online multiplayer mode will be included in the Xbox 360 and PS3 versions. An online multiplayer mode will not be supported on Wii U. The Xbox 360 and PS3 versions will ship with a mode that allows players to take Batman Arkham Origins online to play with friends as well as foes. That’s right: it has co-operative multiplayer elements as well as competitive.
The Batman Arkham Origins online multiplayer mode lets gamers play as Batman or Robin as they go against friends and others online. It’s not just the dynamic duo that’s playable, though. Players can also take on the role of a Super-Villain Elite to see what it’s like to play alongside The Joker or Bane.
If you play as a villain, the goal is to support The Joker or Bane as they try to establish their legacy by taking down Batman and Robin. On special occasions, gamers can play as The Joker or Bane themselves. Those occasions will be like “perks,” as they’re only available in at certain points. For instance, when players need to call in “reinforcements” to help turn the tide of a battle in the Batman Arkham Origins online multiplayer mode.
Again, the Batman Arkham Origins online multiplayer mode will be available in the Xbox 360, PS3 and PC versions, but not Wii U.
