Microsoft’s strategy of highlighting more than just games with the Xbox One gained steam today, as the Spanish TV network Univision today announced that a Univision Deportes on Xbox One app will launch day and date with the next-gen console. Set to debut alongside the Xbox One on Nov. 22, Univision Deportes will be the first Spanish-language sports app launched on Xbox One in the United States. It joins the exclusive NFL content, an ESPN app and several other sports tools for owners of Microsoft’s forthcoming console.
The Univision Deportes on Xbox One application will allow fans to experience the most exclusive soccer content available, including live streaming soccer and video-on-demand content of the most popular sports properties. That list will include Liga MX, the Mexican National Team and the 2014 World Cup. So yes, boys and girls, you will be able to watch the 2014 World Cup free streaming on Xbox One using this app.
Additionally, the Univision Deportes on Xbox One app will provide 24/7 coverage of soccer worldwide, including the latest news, real-time results and stats, comprehensive videos and photos of the world’s most important soccer tournaments and leagues. According to Univision, this will include the Liga MX, MLS, English Premier League, Spanish La Liga, Germany’s Bundesliga, Italy’s Serie A, and the Brasileirão, UEFA Champions League, Copa Libertadores, Copa Sudamericana and more.
This launch marks that second time since 2012 that Microsoft and Univision have partnered around a product launch. In 2012, Microsoft added the popular UVideos app, Univision’s premier bilingual digital video destination.
Univision Deportes will be optimized for Xbox One, offering soccer fans the most comprehensive soccer programming available in Spanish language on a gaming console. In addition to the live streaming sports options, it will include a simulated snap view to provide an enhanced viewing experience during live games and during playback. Users will also be able to easily filter scores/schedule information by league/tournament/date.
“We’re excited about our longtime partnership with Univision and look forward to bringing the Univision Deportes app to Xbox One,” said Kathy Styponias, general manager, Interactive Entertainment Business, Microsoft. “The addition will mark a significant milestone in our mission to bring diverse and complete entertainment offerings to Xbox at launch and beyond.”
Speaking of the Univision Deportes on Xbox One app and the companies’ overall partnership, Univision Senior Vice President of Product, Scott Levine, said “We are proud to continue our relationship with Microsoft which began with UVideos on Xbox 360. Univision Deportes’ availability on Xbox One, combined with the power and new features of this new console allow us to bring unprecedented access to both of our audiences.”
