McLean, Virginia – Radius Development is pleased to announce the availability of Nutty Squirrels on the iPhone App Store. Nutty Squirrels is a fast-paced arcade-style game where items falling out of a tree must be bounced into the nest using a movable trampoline. The gameplay is simple in concept but quite challenging in practice – keeping several items going requires quick reflexes and snap judgements to catch everything in the right order.
Clicking on the left or right squirrels moves the trampoline in that direction. Three bounces gets an item from the tree into the nest – the challenge is juggling multiple items on the screen at once and moving the trampoline quickly enough to catch items landing at the same time. The background scenes, squirrels, trampoline, drop items, and icons were all hand-drawn by the author’s children (aged 7 and 8) in crayon, marker, and pencil.
Nutty Squirrels has 18 levels of progressive difficulty, each with its own goal of accumulated acorns needed to complete and drops allowed. Each acorn scores one point against the needed total while any dropped item counts against the drops. In addition to acorns, there are pinecones, twigs, leaves, feathers, and rocks that fall from the tree.
The rocks are insidious as they cause the trampoline to stick where it was hit for a second – just long enough to cause problems catching other items. Leaves are helpful in that they cause the trampoline to widen and cover two spaces at once for a short period. Similarly feathers slow down the falling action to make it easier to bounce all the items. Twigs bring out a helpful bird that sits in one of the trampoline spaces and bounces everything that comes his way. Sound effects include live bird and wildlife recordings that capture the mood of a nature scene.
