One of the NFL’s oldest and biggest rivalries gets underway today at 1pm EST on FOX when the Green Bay Packers travel to take on the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field. Unlike is seasons past, the 2-1 Bears will seemingly have the advantage over the 1-2 Packers as you watch today’s Packers game live.
Chicago has won two in a row going into today’s Bears Packers game, while Green Bay is coming off a 12-point Week 3 loss to the Lions. It would be surprising to see Green Bay stick with their ground game today like they did last week with few results. Even with running back Eddie Lacy, the Packers own the league’s 27th-ranked running game. Heck, Lacy himself is averaging just over two yards per carry, down three yards from his average last season. Although the Packers could find success against the Bears’ 26th-best run defense, Rodgers is a potential Hall of Famer and wants to start airing it out.
With that said, Rodgers hasn’t found much success in the air either. His Total QBR is below quarterbacks including Drew Stanton and Brian Hoyer, and if he doesn’t get some looks downfield today it could make the Bears’ defense look better than it has so far.
To be fair, the Bears defense was always thought to be stronger than its offense, so having seen Chicago decimate the Jets and upset the 49ers at Levi’s Stadium this year has made people want to watch today’s Bears Packers game live online to see the offense.
That may just be an aberration. Chicago’s defense hasn’t been horrible, just overshadowed by a surprisingly effective offense. Last season the Bears had the NFL’s last-ranked run defense, so things were supposed to improve. The Packers have faced strong run defenses in the Seahawks, Jets and Lions and have struggled, though some of that could be their banged-up offensive line.
